2001 is such a lovely vintage to drink now, all the de Vogue are drinking now beautifully except the Musigny, which is still too young! The declassified Musigny Blanc is opulent and somewhat lactic and a touch cheesy. Lots of retained freshness for a 20 year old white! All of the de Vogue 01s have a delineated red cherry and airy spice backbone, and it’s especially transparent in the Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru (young vines in Musigny). Needless to say I have a soft spot for their Amoureuses!

Tasting Notes

De Vogue Bourgogne Blanc 2001

The 2001 de Vogue declassified Musigny Blanc is opulent and somewhat lactic and a touch cheesy. Lots of retained freshness for a 20 year old white! Plenty of tree fruits, apricot yogurt and a touch of green almond. Creamy texture with fine acidity. 1er cru intensity, structured and full bodied. Slightly cheesy on the finish. (88/100)

De Vogue Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru 2001

All of the de Vogue 01s at the dinner have a delineated red cherry and airy spice backbone, and it’s especially transparent in the Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru (young vines of Musigny). Red cherries, boysenberries and anise. Creamy and delicate, honest 1er cru weight with very fine tannins. Drinking superbly and should age for another decade. (88/100)

De Vogue Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses 2001

The 2001 de Vogue Les Amoureuses is incredibly polished and silky. Fragrant array of delineated red fruits, rose tea and a touch baking spices. Classy Premier Cru weight with a gorgeous bouquet superior to the declassified Musigny and Bonnes Mares. Drink now – 2041. (90-91/100)

De Vogue Bonnes Mares 2001

Bonnes Mares is always a bold wine and has more structure than any neighbouring vineyard, they generally require long term cellaring before they are approachable, especially the case for de Vogue. Tightly wounded array of black cherries, blood plums, and a touch of orange peel and balsamic. Muscular with vibrant acidity. Rich and broody. Drink now – 2041. (90/100)

De Vogue Musigny 2001

Iron fist in a velvet glove. The 2001 de Vogue Musigny has a considerably riper fruit profile than the rest of the de Vogue cuvees in 2001, it is also the only de Vogue 2001 cuvee that still isn’t ready yet. Intense bouquet of black cherry, a touch of rose and tar with a fine mineral backbone. Roasted spices and herbs. Full bodied yet decadent with a fine nuanced mixed cherries bouquet. Drink from 2024 onwards. (92-93/100)
